Hi there, Just wondering has anyone in the Aclub have any experience mountain walking in the Ardeness or the Vosges in France, I have relocated from Ireland where I used to spend as much time as possible in the mountains but unfortunately have not been able to find a new group here. Many thanks, Stephen

Hi Stephen, We do some walks in the Ardennes every so often, perhaps once a month or so, depending on when someone wants to organise a trip, mostly. I wouldn't really call any of the Ardennes "mountains" though... the hills around the river valleys (Lesse, Semois, Ourthe etc.) are about as mountainous as you get. It doesn't really compare with Macgillycuddy's Reeks... nevertheless, there are some nice places to discover. David

Hi David, Thanks for the reply. I really miss the Reeks along with the rest of the mountains in Munster :-). I have been to the Ardnennes once and it was quiet nice. I was going to come along to the table quiz on Monday, will you be attending yourslef. Cheers, Stephen

what do you understand under mountain walking ? adventurous summit walks like in the alps or rock-climbing ? - ardennes are not much of a mountain range. You can have nice forest walks over there, it's very suited for mountain-biking and there are quite a few rock-climbing area's. (20-50 m, even up till 100 m: Freyr); - same is true for the Vosges, although this area is much higher. Vosges are also well suited for a shortski an/or for "langlauf". There is one adventurous walk in the vosges, nearby the "Col de la Schlucht". So if anyone: - likes to go for a Vosges shortski this winter (I know 2 places to stay); - would like to enjoy indoor-climbing in brussels on a rainy sunday-afternoon; - or even want to go rock-climbing in the ardennes for a (sun)day (although my level is not to high, some experience (rope manipulation, safety) is needed for the latter !) let me know. damiaan 0495/736097
